What To Do After A Car Accident

Even the most careful drivers can get in an accident, so it's important to know what steps to take if you find yourself in that situation. Below is a guide the Menicucci Insurance team put together to help you get through an accident safely:

  1. Check for injuries. Make sure you and any passengers are not seriously injured - if you are unsure, dial 911.

  2. Remain calm. Try to remain calm and take deep breaths to keep a clear head during this experience.

  3. Move out of traffic. If the accident was minor, move all cars involved to a safe place out of traffic. If the accident was more serious but you are uninjured, bring yourself out from oncoming traffic. If you are unsure if you're injured, or others, leave them where they are. Moving someone while they're in a fragile state can cause even more harm – let the professionals handle the situation as they see fit.

  4. Call the police. Call the police and inform them of the accident, and don't leave the scene until they arrive.

  5. Take a picture. Take a few photos of each of the cars involved, including the license plate. This will protect you against fraudulent claims from the other people affected.

  6. Exchange information. Collect as much information as you can about any other parties involved. This includes the driver's name, address, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver's license number and license plate number.

  7. Notify your insurance provider. Reach out to the Menicucci Insurance team to help you with reporting a claim and next steps.
